Spaghetti Bolognese



I tried cooking  this kind of spaghetti during the holiday season at home. It was different from the usual spaghetti that I usually prepared. For this menu I added some Italian sausage (not smoked) and finely chopped celery stalks and carrots. I love the new flavor and the taste. Authentic dish that everybody just loved to eat last Christmas.

Christmas Donuts

I got a chance to buy these yummy donuts from GoNuts. Assorted kinds of round, soft and sweet donuts with varieties of flavor like chocolates,cinnamon, and peanuts. I bought a dozen ( 1 box ) from the take out counter of their stall in Alabang Town Center. We enjoyed eating it and just a  perfect  morning  partner for a cup of coffee.

Jubilee Foods

A great food experience during the Jubilee celebration of the wedding of my uncle and aunt in Manila. The foods served were very delicious. I had a chance to capture shots of these delectable dishes that were served buffet to all the guests.

Weekend Menu

After some trouble that I experienced here on my blog account, I can now post updates. This was my menu last weekend , beef short ribs in vegetables. The ingredients are as follows;

Sweet young corn slices

Gabi (kind of root crop) peeled and sliced

Fresh cabbage

The cooking result -- yummy beef broth in vegetables.

Corned Tuna

One canned fish product that I like is this corned tuna. It tastes great in a simple fried way of cooking. Just saute onions and garlic then add the corned tuna. For this you can also add other ingredients like vegetables, egg, cheese etc. for more flavorful dishes using corned tuna as the main ingredient.

Pata Day

Last Sunday I cooked this meal with the main ingredient Pata (pork hind part ) which was boiled until tender then added with salt, pepper, soy sauce and onions. To make it more saucy, I put a can of pork and beans. Include also potatoes and carrots to make the whole menu flavorful. Garnished with green leeks. A friend taught me to try adding pork & beans on meat dishes to enhance the sauce flavor. And it was indeed good to taste.

One Squid Day

This is a pan grilled stuffed squids that I prepared for dinner. There are different kinds of squid that you can buy in the wet market but for this menu I used the whiter kind . Chopped tomatoes and onions are used as stuffing then seasoned with salt, pepper,seasonings and soy sauce. Heat the olive oil and butter and pan grill the squid. This should take a few minutes only and do not over cook the squid to prevent from becoming rubbery. Serve immediately.

Weekend Meals

I had been craving for some fish menu and so I found time to cooked these fish in vegetables and tuna kinilaw. The fish cooked in green leafy vegetables are so satisfying especially the hot broth in it. The spicy & sour taste of tuna acts as an appetizer for a hearty eating over the weeekend. Yummy!

Beef Stew

I always enjoy cooking whenever I have more time especially on weekends. For dinner yesterday I cooked this caldereta (beef stew). I had been cooking this before and its been a good timing because I had a chance to bought some fresh cuts of beef in the meat shop. I boiled the beef cubes until very tender for about 2 hours. Saute garlic and onions, put caldereta mix seasonings in the broth . Boil until sauce thickens. Add pre-fried potatoes and carrots. Simmer for a few minutes. Add bell pepper as garnishing. The sauce itself is already a meal.Yummy!

Lunch Time

I really spent time at home last Sunday cooking meals because I was not able to cook during weekdays. Me and my brother had these delicious menus of garlic shrimps-- fresh shrimps in sauteed garlic in olive oil then added with salt, pepper and seasonings. I also cooked lapulapu (grouper) fish in broth with eggplant and green leafy vegetables. Fresh cuts of lapu-lapu fish (meaty part) boiled with onions, added with eggplants and topped with varieties of fresh green leafy vegetables. Of course, lunch would always be perfect with steamed rice. Its always fun to cook and eat especially during weekends.

Durian Jam

This is a preserve of crushed durian fruit that I like to put on as spread on my favorite loaf bread. The jam is naturally flavored with real mushy durian ingredient. It is not so sweet and I love the creamy taste. Sometimes its good to try the real fruit jam instead of the usual sandwich spreads, peanut butter or cheese.

Take Outs this week

My schedule since Monday until Friday is all occupied starting from the home, office and school activities. I do not have time to cook meals . I did some take food from restaurants usually for dinner because my hands were already tired from work and studies. The food that I bought were great tasting. Cooked well and can also satisfy my cravings after the stress of the day. But personally cooked meals are what I like most.I hope this weekend I can spend time in the kitchen for some meals and be posted in here.

Favorite Pulvoron

I got a chance to bought one of my favorite sweets, the Pulvoron, similar to shortbread.It is made of flour, sugar, milk, and nuts. For these varieties, I had more of the cookies and cream . The combination of the cookies and cream are so yummy sweet and I was thinking that it is similar to the ice cream of the same flavor. Great dessert at any time of the day.

Food Preparation for Vacationers

My relatives were scheduled for a vacation in Manila and they spent an overnight stay at home before they traveled. Their meals now require special preparations because of health concerns as elderly. Before they go, I prepared their packed foods like sliced fruits of papaya,apples and oranges. I also made chicken sandwich -- sliced bread filled with mayonnaise,cheese, egg and chicken strips. The fruits were placed in a canister for easy opening and the sandwiches were wrapped in a sandwich wrapper for easy take-out when they are on board the plane. It was quite time consuming to prepare for all of these especially that I had also some other things to attend so I just did it quick and fast. They enjoyed eating their food for travel that I prepared.

Corned Tuna and Egg 4 Breakfast

I cooked early for breakfast with these yummy combos of spicy corned tuna and scrambled eggs. Corned tuna is stir fried in onions and added with little salt and seasonings. Eggs are quick cooking ingredients so I finished preparing this meal before 7:00 am. Delicious breakfast menu together with freshly cooked rice. Good meal to prepare for an early morning rush.

Persimmon Fruit

My friend MyMy gave me this persimmon and I am a little curious about this kind of fruit because it is uncommon here in the tropics. I read that persimmon according to the ancient times is the fruit of the gods and an edible fruit that belongs to the species of trees. I like its color of bright orange. I have not sliced this fruit yet and its still inside the refrigerator. Perhaps I can taste this imported fruit one of these days and see if it can pass my taste buds.

Shrimps with Greens

It was dinner time again at home. Good thing because I had a chance to bought some vegetables and shrimps in the market then went home early. For this menu I used kulitis leaves, a green leafy vegetable that looks like spinach. It is rich in vitamins and minerals. Seldom I can buy this kind of leafy vegetable and I was glad that I found one in the market. Flavorful broth of shrimps and vegetables. Simply healthy and delicious.

Bistro's Cake

Before going home last night I passed by at Bistro and bought this yummy butter cake. Soft and creamy cake that I made into slices. I love to savor each bite pieces. One perfect partner for my favorite morning coffee.

Spring Rolls

It was my first time to cook these spring rolls (lumpia) and I was excited to prepare it for lunch. Quite time consuming because I had to mix the ground meat with seasonings and make individual roll. Each should be sealed and wrapped properly in a yellow wrapper to seal in the meat when deep frying. I successfully made my cooking! Yummy, crunchy rolls with center dipping of tomato ketchup. You can have also dipping combinations of garlic & vinegar or sweet chili sauce.

Sunday's Menu

Beef Spare Ribs in Langka

Ingredients:

500 grams beef spare ribs cut into serving pieces
250 grams, langka (young jack fruit), sliced
onions
garlic
1 liter, Water
salt
seasonings
leeks for garnishing

Procedure:

Boil the beef spare ribs in 1 liter of water until very tender. Add langka and boil until very tender too. Add onions and garlic and simmer for 5 minutes. Adjust the salt and seasonings according to taste. Garnish with leeks. Serve hot.

Bowl of Breakfast

It is hard to wake up early morning but I have no choice. I prepared this meal of very tiny anchovy fishes sauteed in garlic, onions and tomatoes.Put a little salt and add 3 large pieces of eggs (scrambled) stir fry for a minute and garnished with chopped leeks. I had this ready serving in a bowl for my breakfast. Quick, easy and yummy.

Chowing Bestfriends

Great moments here with my friend Libby during her vacation. We spent time at her home and enjoyed eating yummy foods like roasted chicken, pancit guisado, steamed crabs in oyster sauce, and desserts of buko salad and chocolate moist cake. Yummy foods and never ending chats of each others' lives. This is considerably the best moment of our get together. I missed the food but more of missing Libby :D.... Hope we can see each other again..soon..

Take Out Value Meal

I couldn't help but had this chicken value meal when I was busy from office and had no time to cook last week. Crisp and juicy fried chicken with savory sauce and rice. One delicious meal that relieved my hunger and cravings after a hard days' work.

Late Dinner Meal

The heavy rain was over when I arrived home last night. It was late already because I met with MyMy and we did some important things on her blog. Though late I still prepared this vegetable meal in shrimp broth. Vegetables that I added on were okra and alogbati (a green leafy vegetable). It was quick to cook this meal because I already prepared the ingredients beforehand. Great meal for a stressful day.

Yummy Crabs

Steamed Crabs in Hoisin & Sprite Sauce

I got a good chance to bought these crabs yesterday from the wet market because the price was cheap and it was a lot for a meal. The crabs were steamed and in a separate pan I sauteed onions, garlic, ginger in olive oil then added hoisin sauce. I used sprite soft drink instead of water and let it boil. Put the steamed crabs and simmer until the sauce thickened. Garnish with leeks then serve immediately. Eating crabs is always a mess but it was worth it. The blend of all the spices in the sauce made the crabs so finger lickin' good. Very delicious!

Spicy Spare Ribs

Its always fun to cook on weekends and so last Sunday I had this spicy menu of pork spare ribs. The meat was pan fried until golden brown then added with some choice spices of star anise, salt, pepper,cumin and chili. Boiled until tender with thickened sauce . Garnish with sliced cucumber. It was savory that the combination of all the spices made the spare ribs truly irresistible.

Food for Lunch

I prepared early morning this Crispy Pork Liempo as my baon food for lunch at the office. Pork belly cut into bite pieces, marinated in soy sauce, salt, pepper and seasonings. Then deep fry in hot canola oil until crisp golden brown. You can have ketchup or vinegar & garlic as dipping. Liempo together with rice can be an ideal meal for lunch pack. Just prepare some extra rice because you might be wanting for more.

Stuff for new mums

Being a mother is the most wonderful and unique destiny for a woman. It is one great privilege to be part of the pro-creation of human being. However, being a mother is also a one great challenge and there are lots of things to consider and understand about the beauty of motherhood. First time mums are really exciting and expecting for your first bundle of joy requires lots of preparation in such a way that you as a mother will not be totally stressed out. Having digital cameras is very important because it is the best gadget to capture those precious moments of the baby from the birth until the few months old, toddler and onwards. You as new mum should also need pushchair to use for the new baby. It is very useful when traveling or leisure in parks and malls because you as the new mum does not have a hard time carrying the baby but instead put in the push chair for easy access. All you have to do is to use the push chair wherever you want the baby to be place in. Another stuff again for the new mums are the toys. Toys play a big role for new mums as it helps ease out the tensions and tantrums of the babies. It aids as a fun stuff that the baby could enjoy watching or doing. Mums would not get too stressed if the baby behave and in the mood for the day. The stuff that is important for all new mums are flowers. I think each and every new mum deserved fresh and colorful flowers to brighten up their days. Flowers give that special aura to new mommies and flowers represent their womanhood with delight and gladness in very colorful ways. Being new mum is always rewarding as long as you face this special career with understanding and optimism. And also having these stuffs would be of great help to new mums in achieving their special roles.

Weekend Recipe

Seafood Bihon Surprise

Ingredients:

130 grams bihon ( rice noodles)
100 grams shrimps
100 grams squid cleaned and sliced
1 tbsp cornstarch
1/8 tsp salt
green onions, chopped
1 pc red bell pepper, strips
2 pcs carrots, strips
3 cups water
1/4 cup soy sauce
1 tbsp sesame oil
ground black pepper
celery stalks & leaves, chopped
onions
garlic
2 tbsp olive oil

Procedure:

Heat olive oil in a large pan.
Saute onions and garlic.
Add shrimps and squid.
Simmer for 2 minutes.
Add in soy sauce, vegetables,water & cornstarch.
Season with salt and pepper.
Cook for 10 minutes.
Add bihon and cook until done. Drizzle with sesame oil.
Top / garnish with celery , green onions and red bell pepper.
Serve immediately while its hot.

Cooking with Parmesan

I cooked pasta dish Carbonara days ago and one of the ingredients that I added on that menu was Parmesan Cheese, a hard, dry variety of Italian cheese made from skim milk usually grated and sprinkled over pasta dishes or soups. One deliciously perfect cheese partner for pasta foods. I love it!

My Birthday Cake

It was a great day indeed. My birthday yesterday was full of fun and surprises. I got this birthday cake from a friend. It was just so thoughtful of her to received this delightful treat. Yummy, creamy Ube (purple yum) cake. The dough is soft with cream moist fillings and toppings. Perfect dessert for my special day.:D

Birthday Cooking

Today is my special day and cooking for occassion like this is always fun and exciting. I prepared these meals at home today though tired of early preparation but worth it for the celebration.

Classic Carbonara

This a traditional Italian pasta made of Pancetta (Italian style bacon), cheese and cream. I used Linguine pasta and added some fried bacon, crushed garlic, heavy cream. Toss until well combined and served immediately with Parmessan cheese.

Beef Hungarian Goulash

One of my favorite menu to cook on special occasion. Choice cuts of beef top round in selected spices, tomato paste and paprika, then cook in medium heat until tender using beer. I enjoyed cooking these yummy dishes and hope the fans would enjoy eating as well. :)

Pasta Purchases

I went on shopping this weekend for some pastas. I bought this San Remo Linguine, pasta in long slender flat strips.

Another pasta that I bought is the Campagna's Penne Rigate, pasta in short tubes with diagonally cut ends.


This in preparation for some cooking specials this week. Whatever it is, I would definitely be posting it here in the coming days. I hope I can cook well these pastas for my avid eating fans at home :D...
